Hiker at Steinke Basin at Devil’s Lake State Park
The Wisconsin Dells area offers endless miles of hiking trails. The trick is deciding how long of a trek you’d like to take on, what you want to see and of course how far you want to drive. Still, you are easily within 20 minutes of the the best the area has to offer. Here are some of our recommendations;
Devil’s Lake State Park is just about 15 miles from Wisconsin Dells and certainly offers some of the best hiking trails in the mid-west. Even folks who don’t get out much can usually manage the East and West bluff trails that provide the most scenic views of the lake. Experienced hikers looking for longer hikes and less people can explore the Steinke Basin, Uplands & Ice Age trails all located east of the lake itself. The Uplands & Ice Age trails are about as close to wilderness hiking you’ll find in the area but are still maintained and well marked. Devil’s Lake also has paved wheelchair accessible sections that offer a great opportunity for everyone.

Mirror Lake & Rocky Arbor State Parks are right in Wisconsin Dells (well almost) and also offer some nice trails. Generally the trails in these parks are wooded and accessible to hikers of all experience levels. The trial system is well maintained and marked. Generally the trail loops at Mirror Lake are perfect for families.
